Ahmedabad: Retired IAS officer of Gujarat cadre Atanu Chakraborty has been appointed as the chairman of the Association of CGD Entities (ACE) for a period of three years.
Chakraborty, who superannuated as Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs in April 2020, will also serve as the association’s independent director. He is also the Chairman of HDFC Bank, the largest private sector bank in the country.
Chakraborty, a 1985 batch IAS officer, served in various capacities in Gujarat, including as managing director of state-owned Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) and Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals (GSFC), besides serving in education, finance, home, and other departments.
While on central deputation, Chakraborty served as the Director General of Hydrocarbons for more than two years from 2016 to 2018 and was also posted as Secretary in the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management.
The Association of CGD Entities was established in December last year by founding members Adani Total Gas, AGP City Gas, THINK Gas Distribution, Torrent Gas, and Unison Enviro to promote the development of City Gas Distribution (CGD) sector in the country. It also aims to promote awareness about the latest developments in the CGD sector, encourage knowledge-sharing in the industry, and work with the government, regulator, and other stakeholders for increasing the share of natural gas in the country’s energy basket.
