Ahmedabad: From today in Ahmedabad people who have not take any of the two COVID-19 vaccine doses is not be allowed entry into public transport or civic buildings.
Such people will be barred from entry into vehicles of the civic transport service, the Bus Rapid Transit System as well as Kankaria lakefront, Sabarmati riverfront, libraries, gymnasiums, sports complex etc, said AMC Commissioner Mukesh Kumar.
“Entry will be allowed ONLY for persons having ONE or BOTH doses (if eligible) of vaccine for availing various municipal services. The vaccine certificate shall be checked at the entry point of such facilities. To be effective from 20 September, Monday,” Kumar tweeted.
This decision was taken to speed up the vaccination process and overcome possible hesitancy among people.
On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, over 22.15 lakh people were vaccinated against COVID-19 in Gujarat with Surat administering the highest number of 2.77 lakh doses.
As per the figure released by the state health department, a record 22,15,027 people were administered the COVID-19 vaccine till 10 pm on Friday.
Surat administered the highest number of 2,77,121 doses among 33 districts, the official said.
Meanwhile, for the first time in the last nine months, the number of COVID-19 cases in the state dropped to a single digit in a day on Sunday.
As per the state health department, Gujarat recorded the highest number of infections in a day at 14,605 on April 30.
With eight new cases from Surat, Vadodara, and Valsad- the tally of infections in Gujarat reached 8,25,723 on Sunday while the death toll remained unchanged at 10,082 with no new COVID-19 fatality been reported in the state after September 4.
