Continuing the downward trend, new cases of Covid-19 in Gujarat fell to the lowest in almost 18 days on Sunday.
According to the state health department, eight cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the state, which is the lowest since April 3, 2020. The state had reported 13 cases on Saturday, 25 cases on Friday, and 22 the previous day.
The drop in cases has coincided with an increased vaccination rate. The state has administered more than 95 lakh vaccine doses this month, including 23.68 lakh vaccines on September 17, the birthday of prime minister Narendra Modi, to take the total to over 5.66 crore. As per officials, around 80% of the state’s eligible population has received at least one dose of the vaccine so far.
Zero Covid-19 related deaths were reported in the state on Sunday, making it the 16th such day in a row. The last Covid-19 related death was reported in the state on September 3.
In terms of new cases, four of the eight cases were reported in Surat city, two in Vadodara city, one in Vadodara district, and one in Valsad. Zero cases were reported in Ahmedabad city for the second consecutive day.
The overall Covid-19 tally in the state is 8,25,723, while the death toll is 10,082, as per health department data.
