Ahmedabad: Gujarat touched another significant milestone in Covid-19 vaccination on Monday, with the number of people who have received at least one dose of the vaccine touching the 4 crore mark.
According to the state health department, 4.01 crore out of the state’s eligible population of 4.93 crore have received the first dose of the vaccine as of Monday afternoon, translating into just over 81% vaccination rate.
In Ahmedabad city, 38.18 lakh people have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 18.26 lakh people have received both doses.
The state has administered 5.70 crore doses so far, and 1.69 crore recipients have received both doses.
Gujarat is only the fourth state where at least 4 crore people have been fully vaccinated against Coronavirus. The country’s most populous state Uttar Pradesh has so far administered the first dose of the vaccine to 7.85 crore people, followed by Maharashtra with 5.32 crore, and Madhya Pradesh with 4.54 crore. Rajasthan has administered the first dose of the vaccine to 3.94 crore people and just trails Gujarat.
In a statement, the state government said that Gujarat has administered 890 vaccine doses for every 1,000 population to fare much better than other states.
Gujarat became the third state to touch the 5 crore vaccination mark on September 7 and has administered more than 1 crore doses in September so far.
