If you are going on CG Road and SG Highway, or go for a drive from Shahibaug to the airport in your car, then don’t park on the road or in no parking zones.
If your vehicle is obstructing the traffic in any way or illegally parked then it will be towed away. The reason Ahmedabad traffic department has got a nod from the home department for five new towing trucks which will be specifically deployed on CG Road, SG Highway, Shahibaugh, airport and any other place where there’s going to be VVIP movement.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Mayank Chavda said, “Ahmedabad traffic department has 10 towing vehicles. Nine of those were designed to tow only two-wheelers whereas only one was used to tow four-wheelers.
We had put up a proposal before the home department to convert five of them into car-towing vehicles. The proposal has been sanctioned. The five towing trucks with cranes will be deployed soon so that traffic can be eased on busy roads.”
The impounded two-wheelers were towed away to ten stations across the city. Till now, only locks were applied on illegally parked cars. The arrangement did not solve the traffic problem as the illegally parked cars remained there till their owners came back. Now, cars won’t be locked but towed to nearest stations, said a senior traffic official.
After the traffic police intensified its drive to tow away two-wheelers and lock cars, it often caused conflicts between cops and commuters. Most commercial hubs in the city lack sufficient parking space and commuters are left with no choice but to park on roads.
