Ghatlodia MLA Bhupendra Patel is called ‘Dada’ by his supporters and many others. A follower of Dada Bhagwan, Patel won the Assembly election from Ghatlodia seat with a record 1.17 lakh margin owing to the exemplary work he did in Memnagar nagarpalika and then as AMC standing committee chairman and later AUDA too.
Patel is highly active in public life and is known as a problem solver in his constituency. He is a grassroots leader and has been a proponent of development and progress. Solving problems and bringing development at a fast pace with his administrative skill, instead of being harsh, is his functioning style.
His first display of administrative skill came as head of Memnagar nagarpalika. In 1995-96 he became chairman of the standing committee and head of the nagarpalika in 1999-2000 and 2000-2006.
In these stints, he brought the nagarpalika out of losses for which he was given an award by the then CM Narendra Modi.
After the nagarpalika merged into AMC in 2007, Bhupendra Patel became vice chair of the school board in 2008-2010. He was elected corporator of Thaltej ward in 2010. As AMC standing committee chairman, he introduced concepts like RCC roads and model roads, built auditorium halls and storm water lines among other development projects.
He also streamlined the work on flyovers that led to easing of traffic problems to a large extent.
He became AUDA chairman on January 1, 2015.
Patel got flyovers built at Bopal junction and Odhav junction on SP ring road. He fought the 2017 Assembly election after resigning as AUDA chairman and won from the Ghatlodia seat. There was talk that he would be included in the cabinet at the time. Development projects during AMC stint.
He brought the concepts of RCC and model roads — 3.25 km RCC road near Sindhu Bhavan at a cost of Rs23.70 crore; a 1.5 km RCC stretch in Ghatlodia for Rs9.5 crore.
Built the Pandit Deendayal auditorium hall at a cost of Rs34 crore — the biggest auditorium in New West Zone.
