The Gujarat government has allowed DJ and other music bands to perform at social and religious functions. The decision was taken following a cabinet meeting held on Wednesday. The home department has been directed to issue a notification concerning the same. The decision comes as Gujarat records a drop in COVID cases. The state has been recording less than 20 cases every day, with the city recording less than five cases per day. Although on Wednesday, the city recorded six new COVID cases.
The Gujarat government had disallowed DJ and other music bands at social and religious functions when the state saw a surge in COVID cases. This was done to prevent the gathering of crowds. When Gujarat had seen a surge in COVID, the government had restricted the number of people at weddings and funerals and closed down temples, and banned all public religious gatherings.
Despite the restrictions, between April and May, the state had booked 700 people for violating COVID protocols including, gathering a crowd at DJ functions across the state.
The state had also put 36 cities of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot under night curfew. It had also banned wedding processions. The curfew and other restrictions were later slowly withdrawn or eased.
The relaxation for DJs and music bands will come as a relief as the state prepares for Ganesh Chaturthi.
