Jval, Mukund, Dina and Aditri to represent Ahmedabad in U-13 state chess championship

Jval Patel and Mukund Agarwal will represent Ahmedabad at the upcoming U-13 State Chess Championship 2021 in the boys’ category, while Dina Patel and Aditri Shome will represent the district in the girls’ category.

Organised under the aegis of chess New Ahmedabad District Association at the Orient Club on Sunday, the Ahmedabad district U-13 selection tournament saw the participation of just over 100 players.

Two toppers from both categories were selected to represent Ahmedabad in the state chess championship, which is expected to be held later this year.

Jval Patel topped the table with 5 points among the boys, followed by Mukund Agarwal with four points.

Dina Patel with 4.5 points and Aditri Shome with 4 points topped the table among girls and were selected to represent Ahmedabad at the state championship.

Mayur Patel, vice president of Gujarat State Chess Association, said three other boys, viz. Aatman Raval, Ayaan Chettiar, and Aadish Shah also scored four points each in the selection tournament, but Mukund was ranked ahead of the others based on progressive scores and will represent Ahmedabad in the U-13 state championship along with Jval.

Similarly, Srushti Patel also scored four points to be tied with Aditri, but the latter edged out the former based on progressive scores.

“We plan to hold the U-13 state chess championship in Ahmedabad in November or December, but the exact dates will depend on the Covid-19 situation at the time,” Mayur Patel said.
