On April 11 this year, the SEC postponed the general elections of GMC which was scheduled to be held on April 18.
The polls were postponed as the state was battling a surge in COVID cases and almost all the political parties had requested the same.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had also written to the SEC to postpone the Gandhinagar civic polls stating that if the polls were held there would be a large gathering of people which could exacerbate the COVID situation.
The SEC had, before the postponement, announced that elections would be held on April 18 and counting of votes would take place on April 20.
