Ahmedabad: Two 250-MW power plants at Sikka near Jamnagar have reportedly run out of imported coal. As the quantity of imported coal decreases, its power generation may be adversely affected. The clumsy administration of the government is getting exposed in coal procurement.
The Gujarat government’s only power plant feeds on imported coal. The price of imported coal has also increased significantly. The price has gone up to around Rs 100 per tonne. On the other hand there is shortage of coal. This shortfall is due to regular supply alternately or at intervals of few days.
If this supply is not done in a day or two, then the possibility of interruption of power generation cannot be ruled out, due to which the loss of industries is also likely to increase. The clumsy administration of the Managing Director of Gujarat Energy Development Corporation seems to be responsible for this situation.
