The Chess New Ahmedabad District Association will host the selection for the State Chess Championship 2021 in the under-13 category (boys and girls) on September 5.
To kick off at 9:00 am at The Orient Club in Ahmedabad, the tournament will be open only for players from Ahmedabad city and district.
The top five winners from both categories will be awarded trophies, the Chess New Ahmedabad District Association said in a release. The two winners in both categories will represent Ahmedabad district at the upcoming State Chess Championship.
“We expect around 150 players to participate in the tournament. The number ranges from 80-100 during district-level chess tournaments, but since this is also the selection for the state championship, we are expecting more participants,” Mayor Patel, vice president of Gujarat State Chess Association, told TLA.
The same day, the Anand Chess Association, under the aegis of Chess New Ahmedabad District Association, will organize the Orient Club Open Chess Tournament from 10:00 am. The tournament is open for everyone.
Cash prizes of Rs. 7,000 will be distributed among the top seven players of the open tournament, the association added.
