Union Cabinet Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani on Tuesday participated in a conference of states and union territories as part of the National Nutrition Mission. Irani also released a book documenting the unique nutrition traditions of the country. Irani, who was at Kevadia, also praised the nutrition park that has been developed there and called it a role model for others to follow.
Irani had earlier in the day also offered flowers at the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
“Children Nutrition Park at @souindia – an infotainment park that will give you detailed insights on a nutritious diet and its importance. A must-visit for both parents and children!” Irani tweeted.
The conference is being attended by ministers and top officials of the women and child development department of each state. The participants also visited the Statue Of Unity- the tallest statue in the world.
The conference also saw states making respective presentations about projects that are being implemented to help tackle malnutrition among both women and children. Some of the projects that were discussed included Mission Poshan 2.0, Mission Vatsalya and Mission Shakti among others. The National Poshan Mission is celebrated every year to create public awareness about malnutrition and look at and implement best practices in tackling the same from across the country.
The states across the country are looking to tackle malnutrition by concentrating on ensuring early and continuous breastfeeding for children and proper nutrition during the first 1,000 days of a child’s life. Under the programme, target intervention and awareness initiatives are also carried out for adolescents and women with severe or moderate anaemia.
