Day 6 Tokyo Paralympics Indian players win Gold, Silver, and Bronze

The Monday morning of August 30 brought good news for the country as India won first Gold Medal in R-2 women’s Air Rifle Standing SH1 event at Tokyo Paralympics 2020.

Day 6 of Paralympics, the 19-year-old shooter Avani Lekhara scripted history becoming the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Paralympics, firing her way to the top of the podium in the R-2 women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event. The 19-year-old finished with a world record-equalling total of 249.6, which is also a new Paralympic record.

ParaAthletic Devendra Jhajharia continues to make India proud as he won Silver medal on Monday in Javelin Throw F46 final event with his best throw of 64.35.

Jhajharia has won Gold in 2004 Athens Paralympics and 2016 Rio Paralympics.

While Sundar Singh Gurjar won the bronze medal in the same event with his best throw of 64.01.

Discus thrower Yogesh Kathuniya clinched a silver medal in the men’s F56 event in the Paralympics. The 24-year-old, a B.Com graduate from New Delhi’s Kirorimal College, sent the disc to a best distance of 44.38m in his sixth and last attempt to clinch the silver.

Son of an Army man, Kathuniya suffered a paralytic attack at the age of eight which left him with coordination impairments in his limbs. With this win India’s medal tally reached seven. India is currently on 34th position at point table with won one Gold, Four Silver, and 2 Bronze
