A proposal if it comes to fruition will give Ahmedabad its longest flyover. The 2.5 km long flyover will connect Naroda Patiya to the Galaxy crossroads and is likely to be completed by the year 2025. The flyover to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs165 crore has already been given a nod by the road and building committee of the AMC, media reports said. A further proposal and feasibility report are now likely to come before the standing committee of the AMC.
The project is part of the seven new flyovers that have been proposed for the city and has already got the green light from the government. There had been a demand for a flyover in Naroda as the area saw heavy traffic. The flyover is likely to help decongest the traffic.
At present, the longest flyover is over the Anjali crossroads. Earlier in June, the state had inaugurated a 1500 mt flyover connecting Thaltej and Sola close to Zydus Hospital built for Rs51 crore. It was part of the elevated bridge project connecting Thaltej to Gota.
A plan is also afoot to decongest the SP Ring Road and around nine flyovers have been planned on it. These projects will fall under the ambit of the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA). An underpass and pedestrian bridge is also part of the project which is likely to cost over Rs600 crore.
The project is likely to help with the traffic jams that are a constant feature of the SP Ring Road during peak hours. Both Sindhu Bhavan road and Shilaj crossroads report heavy traffic jams during peak hours.
The funding for the project on SP Ring Road is to come from the Asian Development Bank.
