Ahmedabad will in the coming days get a ‘smart parking’ space in the city that can accommodate over 1,000 cars at any given time.The parking facility will come up near the western part of Riverfront close to the events ground. The plans also include an e-zone for vehicles where electric vehicles can also be charged.The structure is likely to help with the parking woes in the city particularly in and around Riverfront.The multi-level car parking is likely to be connected to the foot overbridge so that those who come to the area can park their vehicle easily. This will give the visitors direct access to the flower park and other attractions on the Riverfront as they can use the foot overbridge to reach these. The parking system will be devised in a way that it would display the number of vacant slots for parking and where it is available.The parking has been planned given the rise in the number of visitors to Riverfront which sees a substantial crowd during mornings and evenings. It is also a popular visiting spot for Amdavaids during the holidays and weekends. The e-zone in the parking area is aimed at catering to those with e-vehicles. As of now, the city has close to 74 official parking spots that can accommodate 55,000 two-wheelers and 27,000 cars. The city has four multi-level parking centres and around 40 off-street parking centres. The space under the bridges is also being used as a parking facility.
