The year when maximum students got promoted in Class 12 exams, colleges offering engineering courses hoped for a respite from the large number of vacant seats. However, academics predict that at least 40% seats are expected to go vacant despite a record breaking 1,07,264 students passing the class 12 science this year.
To date, only 35,092 students have applied for engineering courses against 48,000 seats. The Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) will conduct admission this year. ACPC will bring out the merit list on September 1 and roll out the admission process for the course further.
In total, there are 64,000 seats in degree engineering colleges in Gujarat, including government, grant-in-aid and self-financed colleges.

While 54,000 seats are of SFIs, and it can hold its admission process on their own on merit criteria on 50% of the seats as management quota, against 25% seats earlier. From the 27,000 seats of 50% of management quota, 10,327 seats have already been surrendered to the ACPC this year.
