Ahmedabad may get some light showers on Wednesday, the Met department has warned. It has also warned of light to moderate rain/thundershowers at many places in all the districts of
South Gujarat region, Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli.
Isolated districts in North Gujarat of which Ahmedabad is a part is also likely to get light showers.
Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Mahisagarand Panchmahals; a few places in the districts of Saurashtra namely Amreli, Bhavnagar, Botad, Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Rajkot and Diu will also see rains.
Ahmedabad had on Tuesday late night received a downpour after a fortnight’s gap.
The city received 26 mm rainfall mostly during the nights. It is likely to receive at least 5 mm of rainfall before the evening. In Ahmedabad district, Daskroi taluka received the highest rainfall at 42 mm. In all, over 50 of the 225 talukas in Gujarat received more than 11 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.
Kalupur, Shahpur, Dili Darwaja, Naroda Patiya and Sarkhej were some of the areas that saw a heavy downpour that lasted for a few minutes to an hour. This was the first major rain recorded in the city in August. Thanks to the delay in monsoon, Saurashtra and Kutch are staring at a 49% rain deficit so far while the overall deficit for the state stands at 46%.
Ahmedabad has recorded a maximum temperature of 36.8 degrees Celsius, five degrees above normal and a minimum temperature of 23.3 degrees celsius in the last 24 hours. In the year 2020, Ahmedabad recorded 423 mm of rainfall in August. The single-day highest rainfall recorded for August 2020 was 80 mm which was recorded on August 18, 2020.
